Unless you've been living under a rock you know about the professional wrestler Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, walking out on the WWE early this year. If you were lucky enough to download The Art of Wrestling podcast before it crashed you also know the juicy details of Punk receiving his severance papers (being fired) on his wedding day. Was it done on purpose? Was it just a coincidence? We may never know. What we do know is that seemed to be the final straw for Punk. He has stated that there will never be a working relationship with the WWE again.
Last night after Raw the WWE network aired a special live edition of Stone Cold Steve Austin's podcast. Leading up to this event Austin had stated that he wasn't going to be afraid to ask the tough questions. I was skeptical whether or not CM Punk would actually be brought up but true to his word Austin didn't shy away from tough questions, including ones about CM Punk.
McMahon apologized for the way things ended up. He inferred that he wasn't aware of how things were going down as far as Punk being fired on his wedding day. And just like he stated when you're running a large corporation you're not always aware of every little detail that's going on at any given moment. So I certainly believe McMahon, who Punk said was crying when he left, didn't know how things were going down the way they went down. So who did? Was it Triple H who CM Punk admittedly never got along with? Was it just some legal guru who was looking out for a corporations best interests? Was it a vindictive, purposeful move to fire Punk on his wedding day? These are questions that we as fans will most likely never have answered. One thing is for sure as far as a fans perspective goes, the WWE without CM Punk is not best for business. Enjoy your retirement Phil Brooks and thank you so much for all the memories!
